The LTC4219 is an integrated solution for Hot SwapTM applications that allows for safe board insertion and removal on live backplanes. The device integrates a hot-swap controller, power MOSFET, and current sense resistor in a single package for small form factor applications.

The LTC4219 provides separate inrush current control and a 5.6A current limit with a foldback current limit of 10% accuracy. The current limit threshold can be dynamically adjusted using an external pin. Other features include a current monitor output (which is responsible for amplifying the sense resistor voltage for ground-referenced current sensing) and a MOSFET temperature monitor output. In addition, the device provides thermal limiting and power good monitoring. The power good detection level and the foldback current limit mode are preset internally to suit the needs of 5V (LTC4219-5) and 12V (LTC4219-12) applications.
