TriQuint Semiconductor Corporation announced the launch of the first new high-efficiency, green and environmentally friendly 3G / 4G wireless base station TriPower ™ RF integrated circuit series. TriPower devices address the two major challenges of network operators' rapidly increasing high bandwidth requirements for consumer smartphones and similar products. TriPower reduces the power required to activate network base station amplifiers, while operators can more easily increase network capacity and speed.
More effective amplifiers mean more cost savings. Taking a communication network covering 2,000 such amplifiers in medium-sized cities and surrounding areas as an example, the communication network based on TriPower can emit 340 tons of carbon dioxide per year less than the typical system currently deployed. For example, according to the US Forest Service ’s standard of 2.6 tons of carbon dioxide per acre of forest annual conversion, using a system like TriPower is equivalent to adding more than 130 acres of trees to the ecosystem.
Xiong Ting added that TriQuint uses patented processes, design and manufacturing techniques to achieve TriPower ’s outstanding performance. TriPower RF integrated circuits can be easily linearized using traditional digital predistortion (DPD) technology.
TriPower series are high-power transistor products, an important part of which affects the design of the amplifier and the overall base station power consumption. The name "TriPower" comes from the three main benefits of technology: high power, high efficiency, and high linearity. The system without TriPower technology has an average efficiency close to 42%; while the system with TriPower technology can reduce power demand and a smaller carbon footprint, its efficiency reaches a record 55%.
TriPower products are designed with high-voltage heterojunction bipolar transistors (HV-HBT) and gallium arsenide process (GaAs) to help wireless base station manufacturers and network operators improve efficiency while meeting 3G / 4G cellular communication systems Linearity requirements. When used to increase the maximum efficiency of a symmetrical Doherty amplifier, the efficiency of two TriQuint TG2H214120 120 W devices can provide 55% efficiency at an average power greater than 60 W WCDMA. Because TriPower has extremely high efficiency, operators can install large amplifiers on top of existing base stations without corresponding increase in size and weight. Relatively high power amplifiers can increase the data transmission rate of all users within the base station.
TriQuint's two high-efficiency TriPower new products-TG2H214120 (120W) and TG2H214220 (220W), are the first products of this series to be launched. Since 2010, they will be released successively including more frequency bands and power level products. These new devices will expand the green environmental impact of TriPower technology on different cellular communication systems around the world.
