The 22nm technology generation integrated circuit technology is the latest generation of integrated circuit manufacturing technology being developed globally. In 2009, China began research and development of key technologies for 22nm technology generation ICs with the support of major national science and technology projects. After more than three years of efforts, it has made breakthroughs.

According to R&D personnel, if China has mastered 22nm and below integrated circuit technology with independent intellectual property rights, it can save huge capital needed for the introduction of foreign technology, so that it can autonomously produce high quality and low price electronic products, especially integrated circuit products.

During the R&D process, the joint project team of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Fudan University completed 1,369 patent applications, including 424 international patent applications.
